My last several posts have been based off my friend Letty’s testimony from New Age to Jesus. We have learned about what New Age is all about, the so called “Secret” and about the “Law of Attraction”. Today we will be learning about common New Age teachings. I know I am taking a lot of time on this subject but it is important as the body of Christ to know and recognize the tactics of the enemy.
Be Spiritually On Guard
It’s important that we are spiritually on guard at all time so we can discern the voice of the Lord and the voice of the enemy. There are a lot of mainstream teachings and so called “Christian” self help books that are really New Age tactics. We really need to pay attention to what and who we listen to. Any teachings that are self-centered not God-centered should be questioned.
Matthew 7:15 GNT “Be on guard against false prophets; they come to you looking like sheep on the outside, but on the inside, they are really like wild wolves. You will know them by what they do.”
Jesus isn’t the Messiah
New Ager’s do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah or God’s son. They may not completely discredit Jesus but believe he was a person or “Christ spirit”, they also believe there has been more than one “Christ”. Other “Christ spirits” would be Buddha, Mohammed, Confucius and many more.
1 Corinthians 8:6 (ESV) yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
God is an energy force
A common teaching is that God is an energy force, and when talking about “God” don’t be misled into thinking they are talking but the almighty creator. According to the the New Age Movement the earth, sun, moon, stars, nature and even things are considered to be “God”. All things including man are considered as “one” called Universal Mind, The Source or The Force.
Deuteronomy 10:17 (CEB) because the Lord your God is the God of all gods and Lord of all Lord’s, the great, mighty and awesome God who doesn’t play favorites and doesn’t take bribes.
Man is god
This is a great a deception that we are gods or anything like a god. We were made in God’s image, there is a difference. In fact, that is how the devil deceived Eve promising she would be like God. This is just a lie of the enemy knowing man’s thirst for power, the pride of ego, and us wanting to be like our Heavenly Father.
Genesis 1:27 (NIV) So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Many paths lead to God
New Age teaches that all paths lead to God, which is basically religious pluralism. There is no right way or wrong way to think about God, no way is better than another. This way of thinking contradicts Christianity and the bible
John 14:6 (AMP) Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] life; no one comes to the Father but through me.
New Ager’s believe there is no bad; everything has good in it. There exist no heaven or hell only reincarnation. No sin. No accountability. Satan doesn’t exist and the only problem is fear or negativity, when in reality many problems are caused by demons and the devil.
“Satan’s greatest trick is to convince a person that he does not exist.” If you don’t believe in Satan or evil’s existence then you are left open to subtle attacks, without even realizing it.
New Age raises humans to a god level, teaching that people are okay just as they are. In fact, we are all perfect. We are not broken so we don’t have to be fixed. Hence, there is no need of a Savior. We just needed to learn how to harness that “inner power.”
All these teachings are used by the enemy to inspire spirits of pride and rebellion.
Letty McCardle
These are just some of the most common teaching of New Age. It’s important to know who our enemy is,who we are fighting and the tactics he uses against us and the church. Next we will be learning how New Age has crept into the Christian church and how we can recognize the signs and warnings.
