We live in a lost and broken world. A world that is surrounded with hatred, anger, sin and pain. As Christians how do we become a shining light to this dark world? We start with prayer not only for others but for ourselves.
It’s important to start the day by spiritually covering ourselves with the armor of God and claiming victory over any advances of the enemy. If we don’t cover ourselves in prayer how can we be effective for the lost and broken world around us?
Paul shows us the importance in his letter to the Ephesians:
Ephesians 6: 10-13 (ERV)- “To end my letter I tell you, be strong in the Lord and in his great power. Wear the full armor of God. Wear God’s armor so that you can fight against the devil’s clever tricks. Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places. That is why you need to get God’s full armor. Then on the day of evil, you will be able to stand strong. And when you have finished the whole fight, you will still be standing.”
Two Reasons To put on the armor:
-
To fight against the devils tricks
-
To stand strong
Here is the armor that God has given us:
-
Belt- Ephesians 6:14a (AMP) – So stand firm and hold your ground, HAVING TIGHTENED THE WIDE BAND OF TRUTH (personal integrity, moral courage) AROUND YOUR WAIST
-
Breastplate- Ephesians 6:14b (AMP) – HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS (an upright heart)
-
Shoes- Ephesians 6:15 (AMP) – “and having strapped on YOUR FEET THE GOSPEL OF PEACE IN PREPARATION [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news].”
-
Shield- Ephesians 6:16 (AMP) – “Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
-
Helmet- Ephesians 6:17a (AMP) – “And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION
-
Sword- Ephesians 6:17b (AMP) – “and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.”
Prayer:
Father, thank you for being my strength and for the armor you have provided. I know you fight my battles and I fight along with lifted hands praising you. Right now I put on the helmet of salvation. I take captive of my thoughts and renew my mind with your word. I put on the belt of truth, the truth of your word that is rooted in my heart. I put on your shoes of perfect peace that places me on solid ground and guides my steps. I take up my shield of faith that stops very dart that the enemy throws my way. May I fight victoriously with the sword of the spirit, which is the power of your word throughout my day.
Amen
