What’s my purpose? I have been hearing a lot recently about finding your purpose. We all have a purpose in this life, but what is it? Several years ago, I asked myself the same question. I prayed and pleaded, Lord I know there is more, what is my purpose? I knew there was something great in my future but what? There was something missing. I would talk to my husband about it and he asked if I was going through a mid-life crisis. I told him first of all, I am way to young for a mid-life crisis (I am only thirty-something). You see, it wasn’t about my husband or our family it was my spirit being stirred.
There are times in our lives when we cry out to God. When are things going to change? When are You going to move? What we have failed to realize is that even though we grow impatient and think we are ready, we have to wait on God’s timing. God’s timing is always right and perfect. God is preparing to take us to the next level but are we ready? Several years ago, I would say I was ready but He was preparing me, He knew I still had growing to do. The last few years really tested my faith. It is through these years that God has shown His goodness and faithfulness to me. I can truly say that I know for a fact God’s word never fails.
There will be times when circumstances don’t look good, you maybe going through a rough time but have faith and trust that He will get you through. There were times when all I had was God’s word to stand on, yet that is all I needed.
Today if you are searching for you purpose here are three steps that helped me:
- Seek God– it is important to seek Him and His word. It is during this time that He will speak to you. Make some alone time with the Lord, even if it means waking up 10 minutes earlier to do so.
- Be prepared– One word from God can change your life but are you listening? If you are praying for God to reveal your purpose be ready for the answer, it can come when you least expect it.
- Be willing– God might tell you to do something you think you can’t do. Trust Him! Even if you can’t do it, trust that He will make a way. God will give you the wisdom to do what he has called you to do.
God is about to give you dreams and visions, now is the time to act. It may seem impossible or maybe you worry other people will think your crazy, that’s ok. I rather be crazy doing what God told me to do than to seek approval of men or women. We have been raised up for this very purpose to show His power and glory. We are marked out for His plans that always prevail and will have effect for His purpose.
Exodus 9:16 (NIV) – But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.
Job 42:2 (WEB) – I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.
Proverbs 19:21 (NIV) – Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Isaiah 55:11 (BBE) – So will my word be which goes out of my mouth: it will not come back to me with nothing done, but it will give effect to my purpose, and do that for which I have sent it.
Romans 8:28 (BBE)- And we are conscious that all things are working together for good to those who have love for God, and have been marked out by his purpose.
Father, thank you for revealing the purpose you have given us. You have called us to show Your power and to proclaim Your name. Help us to remember to seek you first. Prepare us for what you have in store for us and help our hearts to be willing to trust You. Give us dreams and visions and the courage to act on it. You, Father, you can do all things and your word has already been sent out that will give effect to Your purpose. It is a privilege to be a part of that purpose and plan.
